MoC plans to offer 4 blocks to power sector in first tranche

January 20: The Ministry of Coal (Mo) is planning to offer to the power sector a total of four coal blocks out of 10 proposed to be auctioned in the first lot through competitive bidding in the first tranche.

"We are planning to offer four coal blocks to the power sector and another six to the non-power sectors," Coal Secretary S K Srivastava said in Kolkata.

He, however, said it has not yet been decided to which sector the balance six blocks would be offered in the first round.

The roadmap for the auction is expected to be determined in the next one month and the auction would be completed by March, Srivastava said.

The ministry is understood to have shortlisted around 29 blocks that are being proposed to be put on the block through the competitive bidding route.
