MoEFCC grants EC green signal to mines of CCL, SCCL

February 13: The Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change (MoEFCC) has granted environmental clearances (EC) to one project each of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) and Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) that will enable the companies to immediately increase extraction of coal to the extent of 1.25 million tons per annum (mtpa).
The ministry has granted EC for expansion of mining capacity at KDH OCP of CCL’s in Jharkhand and the Khairagura OCP of SCCL in Andhra Pradesh.
The clearance to KDH OCP was accorded on January 30 and that to Khairagura OCP on February 6.
KDH extension OCP project of CCL has been allowed to increase peak production capacity to 5 mtpa from the existing normative capacity of 4.5 mtpa. The OCP has geological reserves of 6.08 mt of E grade coal and the entire reserve volumes are extractable.
On the other hand, SCCL was given permission to increase the capacity of Khairagura OCP project to 3.75 mtpa from the current 3 mtpa.
The geological reserves of Khairagura OCP are at 74.31 million tons (mt) whereas the minable and extractable reserves are 66.87 mt of G9 and G11 grades of coal.
