MoEFCC grants EC to WCL’s Gauri Deep expansion

March 20: The Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change (MoEFCC) has granted environmental clearances (EC) to the expansion of the Gauri Deep OCP of Western Coalfields Limited, a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, in Chandrapur, Maharashtra.

With this, WCL will be able to extract 0.60 million tons of coal per annum from the earlier 0.40 million tons per annum (mtpa).

The EC was granted vide a letter dated March 13, 2015.

According to the communique, the mine is linked to UltraTech Cement Limited and the geological reserves of the mine are 15.24 million tons (mt) of G10 grade coal. The mineable and extractable reserves are at 7.66 mt.

Total cost of the project is Rs 85.21 crore.
