April 9: The Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change (MoEFCC) recently granted environmental clearance (EC) to the Kuchena Coal Washery of ACB India Ltd in Korba, Madhya Pradesh.
Capacity of the washery will be 5 million tons per annum.
Coal from the Kushmunda opencast mine under South Eastern Coalfields Limited will be beneficiated at the plant.
“A corridor within the SECL mine lease is required to establish an overhead closed conveyer to transport raw coal from the mine pit to the washery and from there another closed conveyer would be constructed to transport washed coal to a captive railway siding to be constructed at Chakabura and Kasaipalli- adjacent to the SECL railway siding for transport of washed coal and coal rejects by Rail,” the communique said.
Ash content of the washed coal will be 32-34% as compared to 38%-42% in the raw coal, the communique said.
