Mongolia’s July coal exports dip to 2.8 million tonnes
16 Aug 2019
Mongolia’s exports of all types of coal dropped by 6.4% on month in July but grew 9.4% on year to 2.8 million tonnes last month, according to data released by the National Statistics Office of Mongolia (NSO) on August 15. Market sources attributed the lower Mongolian coal exports to the break in coal deliveries to China amid Mongolia’s traditional Naadam Festival over July 11-15.
The drop in Mongolian coal exports in July, however, contrasted with the growth of the country’s coal output, as over the same month, coal production surged by 12.4% on month and 38.5% on year to 4 million tonnes, the NSO statistics showed.
