Mormugao Port August cargo handling up 6.79% y-o-y

September 08: Cargo handling at Mormugao Port for the month of August 2014 increased 6.79% to 0.897 million tons (mt) against a volume of 0.840 mt cargo handled in the same month of last year (August 2013) an official of the port told ICMW.
For the first five months of the current financial year (April-August, 2014-15) the port handled a total of 5.22 mt of cargo against 4.25 mt cargo in the same period last year, registering a growth of almost 23%, the official added.
The official said that the port is yet start handling of iron ore.
In the month of August 2014, the port handled 0.461 mt of coal out of which 73,000 tons was steam coal and balance 0.388 mt was coking coal. In August 2013, the port handled a total of 0.515 mt of coking coal, the official added.
