Mumbai steam coal imports plunge in Jan m-o-m

February 27: Steam coal imports through the port of Mumbai fell to 114,495 tons in January 2015 against a revised 467,957 tons (previously reported figure was 276,605 tons for December 2014), as per provisional information available with ICMW.
With this, total imports of steam coal during the 10 months of 2014-15 stood at 3,252,471 tons against 3,392,066 tons registered during the corresponding period of 2012-13.
Steam coal imports in January 2014 were at 527,825 tons.
Total steam coal imports via Mumbai Port in 2013-14 stood at 3,922,076 tons.
Following is the monthly break-up of steam coal imports via Mumbai in 2012-13 and 2013-14:

In January 2014, the entire volume arrived from Indonesia in a price band of Rs 4,240 – Rs 4,334 ($68-$70) per ton.
In December 2014, however, 413,168 tons arrived from Indonesia in a price band of Rs 3,243 – Rs 4,684 ($52-$74) per ton and 54,789 tons from South Africa at Rs 4,270 ($67)/ton.
