Mundra TPS receives maximum volume of imported coal in Dec

January 29: Out of all the existing 118 thermal power plants in India, Mundra thermal power station (TPS) received 1,029,000 tons of imported coal during December 2013 followed by the Mundra ultra mega thermal power project (UMTPP) which received 664,000 tons during the same month, according to provisional data made available to ICMW by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA).

On the other hand, the power plants located in the western region of the country received the highest quantity of imported coal during the month, which stood at 3,115,000 tons followed by the southern region, with 1,860,000 tons.

Imported coal receipts by plants located in the north and east stood at 859,000 tons and 889,000 tons, respectively.

During the first nine months (April-December) of the current financial year of 2013-14, the Mundra TPS received the maximum quantity of imported steam coal out of all plants, at 9,261,000 tons, followed by the Mundra UMPP which received 8,621,000 tons during the period.

Plants located in the west also received the highest quantity of imported coal during April-December which stood at 31,537,000 tons while the southern region received 14,038,000 tons. Eastern and northern regions received 6,730,000 tons and 7,198,000 tons, respectively.
