31 Dec 2014
December 31: N Sridhar, a 1997 batch IAS officer, will take charge as the new Chairman and Managing Director of Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) on January 1, a company spokesperson said.
“The new chairman is likely to take charge tomorrow,” the spokesperson told ICMW.
Sridhar was appointed in his new position by Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on December 30. He will replace incumbent, Sutirtha Bhattacharya, who has already been selected to head Coal India Ltd (CIL).
The official said, “Bhattacharya will hand over the charge to the new chairman tomorrow. That will complete his tenure at SCCL.”
Prior to his appointment, Sridhar worked as the District Collector of Ranga Reddy district. His previous positions include that of the District Collector of Warangal, Krishna and Anantapur districts, Special Secretary in the Chief Minister’s Office, Director of Ports at Kakindada, Project Officer of ITDA at Utnoor and Joint Collector of Nellore and Sub-Collector at Rajahmundry.
SCCL is jointly owned by the Telangana government (previously, Andhra Pradesh government before the formation of Telengaga as a separate state) and Government of India. However, the power of appointing the top executive rests with the state government.
