NALCO commissions second wind power project

February 6: National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), a public sector undertaking, has commissioned its second wind power plant at Ludarva in Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan, with a capacity of 47.6 MW, the company said in a release.

NALCO has commissioned this wind power project on January 29, 2014.

The project, worth Rs 283 crore, was executed through Gamesa Wind Turbines Private Ltd, which involved erection of 56 wind turbines, each of 850 KW rating. In the first phase of the commissioning, 36 turbines were erected. In the second phase, the remaining 20 turbines were successfully commissioned.

Earlier, the company commissioned its first wind power plant of 50.4 MW capacity at a cost of Rs 274 crore at Gandikota in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh in December, 2012.

In addition, the company also plans to set up the third wind power plant in its own mined-out area at the Panchpatmali bauxite deposits in Koraput.
