NCL’s Krishnashila OCP expansion gets Green nod

August 28: Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) has received environmental clearance (EC) from the Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF) to expand capacity of the Krishnashila opencast coal mine project in Madhya Pradesh by 25% to 5 million tons per annum (mtpa) from the existing capacity of 4 mtpa.
The ministry awarded the EC for the expansions vide a letter issued to the management on August 22, 2014.
Stage II forest clearance for 720.89 ha of forest land out of 851.78 ha of mining lease area has already been obtained in July 2006.
As per the communique, the project would produce 5 million ton (mt) of D to E grade coals every year. The total geological reserves are 109.98 mt and minable reserves are at 99.12 mt.
The total capital cost of the project would be Rs 741.62 crore.
