NCL’s block B OCP gets Green nod

August 6: Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) has received the environmental clearance (EC) from the Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF) to expand the capacity of the Block-B Opencast Coalmine Project at Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh, by 25% to 5.47 million tons per annum (mtpa) from the existing capacity of 4.375 mtpa.
The ministry awarded the EC for the expansions vide a letter issued to the management on August 6, 2014.
Stage I forest clearance (FC) for 447 hectares (ha) of forest land out of 1,339 ha of mining lease area had been obtained on September 2006 and is valid for 20 years.
The total geological reserves from the block amount to 110.67 million tons of C-F grade coal and mineable reserves are at 87.67 million tons.
