NTPC FY16 coal import target hiked 33% to 22 mt

April 17: The coal import target for NTPC Limited’s power plants for the year 2015-16 has been raised by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) by 32.53% to 22 mt from a low of 16.60 mt in 2014-15.
NTPC had ended with actual imports of 15.491 mt in 2014-15, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
On April 16, NTPC’s Director (Operations) said in Mumbai that the company is planning to reduce is coal imports in the year 2015-16 as it expects to receive higher quantities of domestic coal during the year.
The CEA, a wing of the Ministry of Power, has also raised the coal import target for the year for a number of other utilities like RRVUNL (by 260%), MSPGCL (by 49%), APGENCO (by 47%), TANGEDCO (by 10%), KPCL (by 17.64%) and for Adani (Tirora) by 135%.
However, the coal import target for DVC has been reduced by 60% to 1 mt from 2.50 mt in 2014-15.
