NTPC adds 2,255-MW generation capacity in FY16

NTPC Ltd, on March 29, said it has commissioned the third unit of 660 MW of the Mouda power plant in Maharashtra and with this it has added a total of 2,255 MW of generation capacity in 2015-16 (till March 28) which increased its total generation capacity to 46,653.
The company said in a release that besides the third unit at Mouda, it added 400 MW at its Kodam unit in Himachal Pradesh, 250 MW at Bongaigaon in Assam, 500 MW at Vindhyachal in Madhya Pradesh, 250 MW at Nabinagar and 195 MW at Kanti in Bihar during the year.
With the addition of 2,255 MW in 2015-16, NTPC’s total capacity addition during the 12th Plan Period (2012-2017) stood at 9,639 MW, which is the highest-ever capacity addition in a Five-Year Plan period.
NTPC, which aims to increase its generation capacity to 128 GW by 2032, had added 9,610 MW generation capacity in the 11th Plan period (2007-2012).
The utility, which has 18 coal-based, 7 gas-based, 8 solar, 1 hydro and 8 plants under its subsidiaries/joint ventures with over 23,000 MW of capacities in different phases of completion.
