NTPC again under MoC scanner

09 Jan 2014

January 9: The Ministry of Coal (MoC) has served two more notices to National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) over "unsatisfactory" and "slow" progress of two coal blocks awarded to it and has asked it to "show-cause" and "explain" for the same.

The MoC served a "show-cause" letter to the state-run power utility over the "unsatisfactory progresses" of the development of Chatti-Bariatu South coal block following a report by the Inter Ministerial Group (IMG) which said no significant development has been made so far for development of the block.

The company has been given 20 days from the issue of the show-cause notice and the letter seeking explanation (both issued on January 8, 2014) to  explain " why the delay in the development of the coal block (Chatti-Bariatu South) should not be held as the violation of terms and conditions of the allocation,".

The notice also asked the company to explain the reasons for slow progress as well as efforts made by it for development of the coal block.

The ministry will take "appropriate" action in case NTPC fails to reply within 20 days.
