NTPC annuls 5-mt imported coal tender, opts for e-tender

August 26: NTPC Ltd, which had floated four separate invitation of bids (IFBs) to procure a total of 5 mt of imported coal on FOR basis for its 12 power plants, has cancelled the IFBs and will now float a new tender soon, a source told ICMW.

“The IFB has been cancelled as the management has decided to procure the material through e-tender,” the source said.

“The e-tender will be floated soon as it has already gone to the tender and contract cell for evaluation,” the source added.

The supplies against 5 mt IFBs were scheduled to commence from December 2014.

The company will have to float the e-tender soon as it has been given a target to import 16.60 mt of coal in 2013-14 and its actual imports till July were only at 4.50 mt.

ICMW had reported on July 2 last that NTPC has floated four separate IFBs to procure 1.80 mt of coal for Talcher, Kaniha, Farakka and Kahalgaon, 1.60 mt for Simhadri and Ramagundam, 0.90 mt for Dadri, Sipat, Korba and Mouda, and 0.70 mt coal for Rihand and Vindhyachal plants.

The bidding documents for IFB were available on sale from July 2 to July 23, while the opening of the techno-commercial bids was to be done on August 7.
