NTPC commits to add 10,000 MW via solar energy

February 17: NTPC Chairman Arup Roy Choudhury, on February 16, committed to add 10,000 MW of power generation capacity through solar projects.
The commitment was made by the Chairman at RE- Invest – 2015, the First Renewable Energy Global Investment Meet held in New Delhi.
Choudhury said the company has already floated a notice inviting tender for four solar projects of 250 MW each in Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Telengana and Rajasthan and one solar project of 500 MW in Andhra Pradesh.
The first 250-MW solar project in Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh is expected to be awarded within 2014-15.
“Availability of land and the PPA arrangements are being explored in other states like Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Puducherry, Gujarat etc,” the chairman said.
NTPC has already commissioned 8-MW-scale solar projects in different parts of India, totaling 110 MW, out of which the Rajgarh solar project of 50 MW in Madhya Pradesh is the largest. NTPC has generated more than 100 million units of electricity through the renewable energy route during 2014-15.
