NTPC floats EoI for overseas coal mines acquisitions

September 10: NTPC Limited, India’s largest power utility, which is targeting a tie-up for imported coal to the tune of 17 million tons (mt) for the year 2014-15, has floated an expression of interest (EoI) notice for strategic acquisition of stake in overseas coal mines, according to information available with ICMW.

Interested parties can submit their bids till October 1, 2014 up to 3 pm.

NTPC, which procures imported coal to offset the shortage in domestic supplies, has consumed about 148 mt of the domestic fuel and 10.8 mt of the imported variety in 2013-14, according to the notice.

NTPC currently has an installed capacity of 43,128 MW through 38 power stations, including stations operated under joint venture companies in India.
