NTPC receives 34 proposals from private power cos

July 18: NTPC Ltd has received as many as 34 proposals from various coal-based thermal power projects in response to its expression of interest (EoI) to acquire such plants, Power Minister Piyush Goyal has said.

In February 2014, NTPC had sought EoIs from state electricity boards/power generation companies, independent power producers (IPP), power plant developers, captive power producers, or their authorised representatives for “offering their coal-based thermal power projects for possible acquisition by NTPC, Goyal said.

Goyal did not comment on whether the offers that came include plants which have not produced even a single unit since installation of the project.
