NTPC’s January coal imports meet only 48% of target

The receipt of imported coal by NTPC in January 2016 stood at 521,000 tons, which was 48.10% of the target of 1,083,000 tons set for the month, but down 7.46% compared to 563,000 tons imported in December 2015, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

The power utility’s coal imports during the first 10 months (April-January) of 2015-16 stood at 8.873 mt, which was 82% of the target of 10.833 mt but 33% lower compared to 13.246 mt imported during the corresponding period of 2014-15.

The company was initially given a target to import 22 mt of coal in 2015-16, which was subsequently revised to 12 mt amidst increased availability of domestic coal and now this has been re-revised to 13 mt.

*Target for 2015-16 was initially set at 22.00 mt, but was subsequently reduced to 12.00 mt from July onwards and is now at 13.00 mt.
