NTPC strikes coal in Jharkhand

State-run power generation giant NTPC today said in a statement that it has struck coal at its first coal mine.
In a press release, NTPC said, "The company has successfully exposed seam-III in its first coal mine - Pakri Barwadih located in the State of Jharkhand after removal of over burden of 7 lakh cubic meter.''
NTPC noted that coal production will commence shortly from this mine and can be supplied to any project of the company.
The statement also said that NTPC is in "advance stage'' of awarding contract for the appointment of a mining-cum-development operator for its two more mines.
According to the release, the government of India has allocated 10 mines to NTPC having total estimated reserve of 7.3 billion tonnes with an ultimate mining capacity of 107 million tonnes per annum.
The company noted in the release: "This is a major step towards building assured fuel supply for the company."
