Nagarjunasagar hydel unit to run from Jul-Aug

The 50-MW Nagarjunasagar hydel power plant is expected to be commissioned in July-August this year, a senior official from the Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation (APGENCO) told ICMW.
“The two units of the hydel power plant would have been commissioned in June 2015. But unavailability of adequate water has deterred the process. Now, with the forecast of proper monsoons in 2016, it is expected to start running from July-August,” said the official.
He said the main reservoir of Nagarjunasagar could hold 408 thousand million cubic (TMC) feet (TMC) of water and the smaller reservoir pertaining to this hydel power project could hold 7 TMC of water.
According to the official, as the rainfall in 2015 was not sufficient, the main reservoir was devoid of adequate water. As a result, the smaller reservoir was not filled up either.
Additionally, the reservoir water had to be released for irrigation purposes. All these factors led to the deferment of the commissioning of the hydro power project.
