November 25: Government of Nepal plans to shift its major sea trade through Vizag Port from Kolkata Port, a senior official of Vizag Port told ICMW.
“Officials of Nepal government spoke to us and said that they want to trade through Vizag instead of going to Kolkata due to several issues,” he said.
“Last week a government official visited us and returned after primary discussion and in the first week of December we are going to have another round of meeting in Kolkata,” he added.
He said that the details of the material to be traded through will be discussed in that meeting.
Meanwhile, he said that no vessels have been shifted to the west coast ports due to traffic congestion in Vizag. “No vessels were shifted to any other ports from Vizag.”
He said that at Vizag General Cargo Berth, approximate waiting period of vessels are 6-7 days.
