New Mangalore Port cargo handling up 18% y-o-y in June

July 7: Cargo handling by New Mangalore Port increased 17.82% to 2.71 million tons (mt) in June 2014 compared to a volume of 2.30 mt reported in the same month a year ago, according to data received by ICMW.
In the first quarter (April-June) of the current financial year, the total cargo handling by the port stood at 9.68 mt, a marginal increase from a quantum of 9.67 mt cargo handled in the same period of the previous financial year.
Of the total cargo handling during the month, coal’s share at the port stood at 0.75 mt, a sharp increase from 0.40 mt handled in the same month last year. For the first quarter, coal handling by the port increased by nearly 18% to 1.84 mt compared to 1.56 mt in the corresponding quarter of 2013-14, data revealed.
