New Mangalore Port coal imports up 3% in 2014-15

March 20: Coal imports through New Mangalore Port increased 3.11% to 5.3 million tons (mt) for 2014-15 (till the third week of March 2015) against 5.14 mt imported in the previous financial a senior port official told ICMW.
“Udupi Power Corporation Limited, after being acquired by Adani has ramped up its production and imported around 2.6 mt of coal in the current fiscal. But it is yet to utilise its capacity fully and we are expecting that in the coming fiscal it will import more coal through us, the official said.”
Meanwhile, he added that the port is assessing a feasibility study to increase its draft to 18 metres from the current 15 metres to berth capesize vessels at the port.
