Filipino-owned H & WB Asia Pacific (Pte Ltd) Corp. is planning to put up a 700-megawatt coal-fired power plant in Jose Panganiban, Camarines Norte the fourth quarter of 2017, according to the Department of Energy.
Pre-feasibility studies have been conducted to determine the viability of the project. Land already secured and has been classified as industrial,” the DOE said in a report.
Furthermore, the same report said the company has ongoing discussions with three potential co-developers and equity partners for the project while sourcing of potential engineering, procurement and construction contractor is ongoing.
H & WB is among at least 19 companies given the green light to conduct their respective grid impact studies for projects that will generate a total of between 3,000 MW to 5,000 MW.
Diversified conglomerate San Miguel Corp. (SMC), among the 19 companies, was given the green light to conduct a grid impact study for its three coal-fired power plants in the pipeline with a total capacity of 2,400 MW.
According to DOE data, the approval specifically covers SMC Global Power Holdings Corp.’s new coal projects, namely the 600-MW coal plant in Malabuyoc, Cebu, the 600-MW facility in Batangas City and the 1,200-MW plant in Mariveles, Bataan.
The DOE has been encouraging private investors to build new power plants to address growing energy demand in the country.
