Neyveli Lignite bags Talabira II & III coal mines

The Ministry of Coal has allotted Talabira II & III coal mines to Neyveli Lignite Corporation Ltd (NLC) in accordance with the provisions of Section 5 (1) of the Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Act, 2015, according to an official release by the ministry.
These mines are located in Odisha.
These two coal mines were previously allotted to Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL) and HINDALCO Industries, which is owned by the Aditya Birla Group.
The lignite miner-cum-power generator has been asked to collect details to carry out the valuation and computation of compensation payable to the prior allottees.
The prior allottees have been requested to submit all the relevant information and documents. It includes all permits and licenses such as environment clearances, forest clearances, mining leases, ground water clearance, consent from the State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) and grade analysis report.
Chennai-based Neyveli Lignite Corporation Ltd (NLC), a navratna PSU, had earlier evinced interest in setting up a 2000-MW coal-fired power plant in Odisha through a joint venture with a state government-owned PSU.
