January 30: Spot prices of steam coal in the international markets remained unchanged on January 29 even as current rates attracted buying interest from Indian companies, industry sources said.
The Jaypee Group of India, for instance, finalised a deal to procure four capesize cargo of South African coal while a Kolkata-based cement-maker is still negotiating a 5,500 Kcal/kg NAR material, they said.
“Demand is picking up due to falling rates for capesize vessels from RBCT to India, which was down to about $11 per ton from a high of around $19 per ton at the beginning of January,” they said.
