No coking coal imports via Chennai Port in July

August 26: There were no coking coal imports through the port of Chennai in July 2014 as per provisional information available with ICMW. In June, the volumes stood at a mere 330 tons. There were no coking coal imports through the port in May either.
However, in April, coking coal imports through the port had stood at 199 tons.
In June, all the consignments had arrived from the UK in a price band of Rs 29,658 – Rs 30,410 ($491-503) per ton.

It may be noted that coal handling at Chennai Port has been suspended since October 2012 following a ban imposed by the Madras High Court on handling of dirty cargo of coal and iron ore at the port with effect from October 1, 2011. The court order came following the hearing of public interest litigation (PIL). However, old stocks are getting cleared.
