No. of employees highest at ECL within CIL: Goyal

Amongst all the subsidiaries of Coal India Limited, Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) has employed the highest number of workers at 66,614 up to December 2015. Of these, the subsidiary had also employed the largest number of manual workers amongst all CIL arms at 2,607 as well as in the mechanised category, at 64,007.
This information was recently provided in the Lok Sabha by Piyush Goyal, the Minister of State (independent charge) in the Ministry of Coal, Power and New and Renewable Energy.
The subsidiary with the second highest number of employees till December 2015 was South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) at 64,956. However, all its employees fall in the mechanised category, with nil in the manual space.
The total number of people employed by CIL till December 2015 stands at 324,112, with 5,239 as manual workers and 318,873 as mechanised.
The focus of the government is on increasing domestic coal production by expediting environmental and forest clearances, pursuing with the concerned state governments for assistance in land acquisition and making co-ordinated efforts with Railways for movement of coal, the minister said.
