No shortage of rakes for coal, iron ore at SER: GM

November 11: There is currently no shortage of railway rakes for transportation of coal and iron ore in the states served by South Eastern Railway (SER), a senior official said.
“As of date, there is no shortage of rakes for transportation of coal and iron ore. We are meeting 100% of the demand from domestic users as well as from imports and exports,” R K Gupta, General Manager, SER, told ICMW.
Altogether, SER handled 76.44 million tons (mt) of freight during April-October 2015, a 6.21% increase over the same period last year, he said.
However, for the first six months (till September), SER had marginally missed its freight target of 65.62 mt. The yearly target for freight is 134 mt.
In 2014-15, SER handled 124.05 mt of cargo, out of which coal freight was 27.78 mt and iron ore was 62.92 mt.
