No steam coal imported by MAHAGENCO in October

November 30: It is for the second month in a row that Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Ltd (MAHAGENCO) has not imported steam coal in October, as per provisional data available with ICMW.

 There were no imports of the fuel by this power utility in September, either, while in October 2014, the figure had been at a meagre 11,000 tons.

 In the first seven months (April-October) of 2015-16, MAHAGENCO’S coal imports stood at 595,000 tons, down 53% from 1,258,000 tons imported in the same period of the previous fiscal (2014-15).

The imports of the fuel during this period (first seven months) were only 26% of the revised target of 2.33 mt set by CEA for the period. The utilities coal import target for 2015-16 has been revised down to 4.0 mt for 2015-16 from the initially fixed target of 5.20 mt.
