No subsidised coal for CPPs: Swarup
06 Apr 2015
April 06: In a clear cut announcement on April 5, Secretary (Coal) Anil Swarup said that captive power plants (CPPs) will not get coal at a price at which independent power plants are getting such coal.
“I have been informed that these CPPs can sell power upto 50% of their production as merchant power and this is not regulated,” Swarup said.
“If that be true, why subsidised coal should be given to them (CPPs). Why should subsidised coal go to power that is sold in open market? Subsidised coal can go to only such power plants where the benefits are passed on to the consumers,” he added.
