Nov power capacity addition drops 39.45% m-o-m

December 22: India’s power capacity addition in November 2014 stood at 363.3 MW against 600 MW recorded during the previous month, according to provisional data made available by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA).
With this, the total installed generation capacity of the country stood at 255,012.79 MW as on November 30, 2014 while the same was at 254,049.49 MW (revised) during the last day of the previous month, revealed the data.
During November 2014, the capacity-addition target was 275 MW for the thermal sector while the achievement exceeded the target and stood at 363.3 MW. However, for the hydro and nuclear sectors, target and achievement both stood at nil, as per the CEA data.
Meanwhile, in October 2014, the capacity-addition target was 2,450 MW for the thermal sector against which the achievement was 600 MW while for the hydro sector, the target stood at 40 MW and for the nuclear sector, the target was nil. However, achievements for both the hydro and nuclear sectors were at nil, as per the CEA data.
India added a total of 9,941.74 MW of power generation capacity during the first eight months (April-November) of 2014-15, registering a growth of about 42.78% over 6,963 MW added during the corresponding period of the previous financial year, according to data compiled by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA).

During November 2014, the entire capacity was added at Palatana, CCPP, (JV of ILFS, ONGC & Tripura government) in Tripura commissioned by BHEL whereas in October 2014, the entire capacity of 600 MW was added at Shree Singhaji TPP, Ph-II, unit 2, in Madhya Pradesh, by MPPGCL.
