OPGCL get environment nod for Manoharpur coal block

March 12: Orissa Power Generation Corporation Limited (OPGCL) has received the environment clearance for its Manoharpur coal block from the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF), according to information available with ICMW.
The block located in Ib Valley in the Sundargarh district of Odisha will have peak rated production capacity of 8 million tons per annum (mtpa).
The block is spread over an area of 977.875 hectares (including the area inside and outside the project) of which forest area comprises 200.465 hectares.
Coal from Manoharpur block will be used by OPGCL’s 2x 660 MW power plant which had received environment clearance in 2010.
The ministry approved the revised mining plan of the project in December, 2013, which includes relocation of external dumps and setting up of coal handling plant (CHP) and washery away from the villages among other stipulations.
