Oct coking coal imports via Vizag drop 43% m-o-m

November 11: Coking coal imports through the port of Vizag dropped 42.63% to 229,678 tons in October 2014 against 400,371 tons reported in September, as per provisional information available with ICMW.
In October 2013, coking coal imports through Vizag Port stood higher at 508,348 tons.
With this, in the first seven months of the current financial year (2014-15), coking coal imports through the port stood at 2,756,282 tons against a volume of 3,653,258 tons imported during the same period in 2013-14.
It may be noted that Vizag Port was affected by Cyclone Hudhud which had made a landfall in the southern India city of Vizag last month. Consequently, cargo handling at the port suffered, bringing down import volumes.
Following is the monthly break-up of coking coal imports via Vizag Port in 2013-14 and 2014-15:

In October, imports included 178,275 tons from Australia in a band of Rs 7,410 – Rs 8,651 ($119-139) per ton, 48,471 tons from the US in a band of Rs 8,183 – Rs 8,358 ($133-135) per ton and 2,932 tons from New Zealand at a unit price of Rs 6,311 ($102).
In September, imports comprised 369,411 tons from Australia in a band of Rs 6,610 – Rs 8,664 (108-142) per ton while the remaining 30,960 tons arrived from New Zealand at a unit price of Rs 6,179 ($100).
