Oct steam coal imports via Paradip drop 28% m-o-m

November 7: Steam coal imports through the port of Paradip were down 28.14% to 926,431 tons in October 2014 against a volume of 1,289,264 tons in September 2014, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
Imports through the port were hit because of the onslaught of Cyclone Hudhud that had made a landfall last month, impacting ports on the east coast.
Steam coal imports in October 2013, stood lower at 452,887 tons.
In the first seven months of the current financial year (2014-15), steam coal imports through the port stood at 5,247,194 tons against 3,865,715 tons imported during the same period of 2013-14.
Total steam coal imports in 2013-14 were at 6,907,374 tons

In October, imports consisted of 709,558 tons from Indonesia in a band of Rs 2,747 – Rs 4,463 ($44-72) per ton, 172,995 tons from South Africa in a band of Rs 4,927 – Rs 5,782 ($79-93) per ton and the balance 43,918 tons from Australia in a band of Rs 4,721 – Rs 4,762 per ton.
In September, imports comprised 1,044,359 tons from Indonesia in a price band of Rs 2,232 – Rs 16,125 ($36-263) per ton, 124,892 tons from South Africa in a range of Rs 5,214 – Rs 10,725 ($85-175) per ton, 77,000 tons from Mozambique at a unit price of Rs 4,945 ($81) and the balance 43,013 tons from the US in a range of Rs 6,382 – Rs 6,555 ($105-107) per ton.
