October Atlantic thermal coal derivatives up 37% on-year to 307 million mt: LEBA

Traded volumes of Atlantic market thermal coal derivatives in October rose 37% year-on-year to 306.93 million mt, but were down 15% from September's 23-month high, London Energy Brokers' Association data showed Tuesday.
Of the total, 98.5%, or 302.30 million mt, was cleared, up 38% on the year.
Total Jan-Oct Atlantic volumes rose 26% on the year to 2.53 billion mt.
Europe-delivered CIF ARA derivative contracts traded in October jumped 55% on the year to 269.95 million mt, but were down 18% from September's 23-month high.
South African Richards Bay volumes were 36.98 million mt in October, dropping 25% on the year but increasing 15% on the month to a nine-month high.
The volume of CIF ARA derivatives cleared comprised 99% of the total at 266.77 million mt, while 96% of Richards Bay volumes were cleared at 35.53 million mt.
