One dies, four missing in coal mining blast

27 Jan 2014

A man has died and four others have gone missing after an explosion at a coal mine in Ngalau Cigak, Sawahlunto, West Sumatra, on Friday.

As of Saturday, officers were still searching for the missing workers of PT Dasrat Sarana Arang Sejati.

According to the head of Sawahlunto’s Mining Agency Aribawa, the blast might have been caused by a methane gas leakage in the underground mine.

The body was identified as Zulhedi, 31, while the four missing workers are identified as Komaruddin, 30; K. Munir, 30; Nofrianton, 31; and Afan Afendi, 29.

In June 2009, 33 were killed in an explosion in an underground mine operated by the same company, about 250 meters from Friday’s blast site.
