Online clearance will benefit pending power projects: APP

June 24: Online application and monitoring of projects for Environmental Clearance (EC), as proposed by the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF), will help speed up the project clearance process and greatly benefit the power sector, according to the Association of Power Producers (APP).

“The online process will bring transparency. An applicant will now be able to track the status of his project online, which will be a great thing,” APP Director General Ashok Khurana told ICMW.

Drawing the instance of private power projects that have faced prolonged delay to get the clearances, he said, “It will put pressure on ministry officials as both the project owners and the minister in-charge will now know where a file has got stuck.”

As of June 24, a total of 18 thermal power projects are awaiting EC, according to data released by the MoEF.
