Only one HMC to operate at NMPT for a month

May 28: Only one harbour mobile crane (HMC) will remain operative at the New Mangalore Port from May 28 for 30 days for bulk gearless and container vessels operation, according to information by a shipping company to ICMW.

The operations of other two HMCs have been suspended for repairing and are expected to resume after one month, a statement from the shipping company added.

Meanwhile, the statement said, if NMPT gets a call from a container vessel requesting HMC at the time of discharging bulk cargo from a gearless vessel, then, based on the requirement, the port may shift the HMC to the container vessel and keep the bulk cargo vessel idle for one to two shifts.

“Berthing of vessel and cargo operations also may be deferred with priority given to cargo operations for container vessel as the duration of requirement for such vessel will be about two or three shifts. The port will be making required announcements in the berth meeting as when such situations arise,” the statement added.
