PM Kopacz: coal energy important for Poland
19 May 2015
“Poland can afford to use the [natural resource] treasure which is coal, while at the same time invest in new technologies which will reduce air pollution,” PM Ewa Kopacz said on Monday, during the inauguration ceremony marking the construction of a power unit at Elektrownia Turów.
Kopacz stressed that the government has consistently pursued a policy of strengthening Poland’s energy security.
She said that by 2030, due to the environmental requirements and aging technology, multiple installations with a total capacity of 12 gigawatts will be phased out.
The Polish PM added that in connection with this, a number of investments related to the construction of new power units is also under way.
“The Elektrownia Turów block is a very important investment, because it is based on a mining and energy complex. Its completion will be able to provide about 1.5 million households with cheap energy,” Kopacz said.
