Pak Q1 coal imports from SA up sharp 55.38% q-o-q

Pakistan’s imports of coal from the Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) in South Africa during the first quarter (April-June) of the current financial year stood at 1,537,637 tons, up 55.38% compared to 989,577 tons imported in the same period of the previous financial year, according to data available with ICMW.
Similarly, Pakistan’s imports of coal from RBCT in the first half (H1, January-June) of calendar year 2016 stood at 2,889,321 tons, up 81.93% compared to 1,588,127 tons imported in the same period of 2015.
Likewise, Pakistan’s imports of coal from RBCT stood at 662,379 tons in June 2016, up 34.70% as compared to 491,758 tons in May 2016.
Similarly, imports in June 2016 catapulted 100.52% compared to only 330,330 tons seen in June 2015, the data revealed.
Pakistan had been importing significant quantities of coal from South Africa to feed its power plants as the country embarks on producing higher electricity for its population.
The total coal imports by Pakistan from South Africa in calendar 2015 stood at 3,670,039 tons against 3,184,690 tons in 2014, up 15.24% year-on-year.
