Pak buys South African coal in Feb after month’s lag

March 18: After a gap in January, Pakistan’s coal imports from the Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) of South Africa resumed in February 2015, according to data available with ICMW.
Imports in February stood at 109,198 tons as against nil in January.
Incidentally, during February 2014, total coal imports by Pakistan via RBCT stood at 165,921 tons.
With the imports in February this year, total imports of South African coal by Pakistan during the first two months of 2015 stood at 109,198 tons, down from 221,227 tons imported during the first two months of 2014.
Pakistan’s coal imports from RBCT of South Africa during 2014 (January-December) stood at 3,184,690 tons, up 55.53% from 2,047,627 tons imported in 2013, according to data available with ICMW.
In 2012, however, total imports of coal by Pakistan from South Africa stood at 791,131 tons whereas in 2011, these were at 493,255 tons which shows that Pakistan’s coal imports from South Africa have taken a significant jump since 2011.
