Pakistan’s Feb coal imports from SA up 81% m-o-m

Pakistan’s coal imports from South African increased by 81.40% on a month-on-month (m-o-m) basis in February 2016 as compared to imports in January 2016, according to data available with ICMW.
The imports in February 2016 stood at 589,224 tons as compared to 324,825 tons imported in January 2016, the data revealed.
Pakistan had been importing significant quantities of coal from South Africa to feed its power plants as the country embarks on producing higher electricity for its population.
The total coal imports by Pakistan from South Africa in calendar 2015 stood at 3,670,039 tons against 3,184,690 tons in 2014, up 15.24% year-on-year.
Pakistan’s coal imports from RBCT stood at 3,985,538 tons in the first 11 months (April-February) of 2015-16 compared to 2,843,300 tons recorded in the same period of the previous fiscal, showing an increase of 40.17%.
