07 Nov 2014
November 7: Pakistan’s coal imports from Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) during the month of October 2014 stood at 162,106 tons, sharply down 58.29% from 388,654 tons imported during the previous month, according to data provided to ICMW by one of the promoters of RBCT.
During October 2013, Pakistan’s coal imports from RBCT stood at 175,422 tons.
During the first ten months of 2014, Pakistan’s total coal imports from South Africa stood at 2,850,404 tons.
Incidentally, Pakistan’s coal imports from South Africa during the corresponding period of 2013 stood at only 1,772,274 tons, indicating it has taken huge strides in so far as importing coal from South Africa is concerned.
It augurs well for Pakistan to import coal from South Africa instead of Indonesia, because of competitive freight rates and better quality of coal, industry sources said.
