As with steam coal, import volumes of coking coal through the port of Paradip too moved up a sharp 71.07% to 871,845 tons in February 2016 against 509,638 tons in January 2016, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
Imports of coking coal in February 2015 stood at a lower 374,315 tons.
With the addition of the February 2016 figures, total coking coal imports in the first 11 months of the current fiscal of 2015-16 dropped 19.44% year-on-year to 6,695,320 tons against 8,311,340 tons recorded in the same period of the previous fiscal (2014-15).
Total imports of coking coal via the port in the previous financial year of 2014-15 amounted to 9,097,177 tons.

In February 2016, however, imports comprised a volume of 741,803 tons from Australia in a range of Rs 5,126 – Rs 7,750 ($74-113) per ton, 46,950 tons from New Zealand at Rs 5,610 ($82) per ton, 22,858 tons from Canada at Rs 5,501 ($80) per ton, 12,151 tons from Mozambique at a unit price of Rs 5,258 ($77) and the balance 48,083 tons from the US at a price band of Rs 6,411 – 6,458 ($94) per ton.
January 2016 imports comprised a volume of 477,845 tons from Australia in a range of Rs 5,131 – Rs 6,412 ($76-95) per ton, 7,700 tons from Indonesia at a unit price of Rs 5,350 ($79) while the balance 24,093 tons from Mozambique at a price range of Rs 5,177 – Rs 5,227 ($77) per ton.
