Paradip Port 2015-16 steam coal imports down 20%

Steam coal imports through the port of Paradip, after being on an uptrend since the last two months, in March 2016, dropped 31.76% to 727,697 tons against 1,066,430 tons in February 2016, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

With the March 2016 figures, total steam coal imports in fiscal 2015-16 dropped 19.71% year-on-year to 7,321,212 tons against a volume of 9,118,213 tons recorded in the previous fiscal (2014-15).

Steam coal imports in March 2015 had stood much lower at 1,047,478 tons.

In March 2016, imports comprised 126,966 tons from Indonesia in a band of Rs 1,560 – Rs 4,088 ($23-60) per ton, 520,534 tons from South Africa at a price band of Rs 2,715 – 5,697 ($40-83) per ton, and the balance 80,198 tons from Mozambique at a unit price of Rs 2,948 ($43).

February 2016 imports comprised 440,468 tons from Indonesia in a band of Rs 1,722 – Rs 5,379 ($25-79) per ton, 577,962 tons from South Africa at a price band of Rs 2,543 – 3,984 ($37-57) per ton and the balance 48,000 tons from the US at a band of Rs 4,415 – Rs 4,483 ($64-65) per ton.
