Paradip Port Dec cargo handling down 3.27% y-o-y

January 6: Cargo handling by the port of Paradip during December 2014 fell 3.27% to 6.21 million tons (mt) against a volume of 6.42 mt recorded in the same month last year (December 2013), a senior official from the port told ICMW.
On a month-on-month basis, however, the port’s cargo handling increased 5.25% from 5.90 mt recorded in the month of November.
Coal continued to be one of the major cargos handled at the port in December as well.
On a cumulative basis, the port’s total cargo handling for April-December of the current fiscal stood at 53.52 mt, up 6.06% from 50.46 mt seen in the same period of last year.
Of the total cargo at the port, coal handling during November stood at 3.49 mt, up from 2.82 mt in December 2013 and 3.42 mt in November 2014.
Steam coal handling at the port during the month stood at 2.82 mt, up from 2.06 mt in the same month of last year but down from 2.99 mt handled in November 2014.
Coking coal handling at the port during the month stood at 0.67 mt, down from 0.76 mt handled in December 2013 but up from 0.43 mt handled in November 2014.
On a cumulative basis, the port’s coal handling in the first nine months of the current fiscal increased nearly 15% to 27.41 mt against a volume of 23.81 mt in the same period of 2013-14, the official said.
