Import volumes of coking coal through the port of Paradip moved down a modest 10.57% to 509,638 tons in January 2016 against 569,870 tons in December 2015, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
Imports of coking coal in January 2015 stood at a whopping 1,276,859 tons.
With the addition of the January 2016 figures, total coking coal imports in the first 10 months of the current fiscal of 2015-16 dropped 26.63% year-on-year to 5,823,475 tons against 7,937,025 tons recorded in the same period of the previous fiscal (2014-15).
Total imports of coking coal via the port in the previous financial year of 2014-15 amounted to 9,097,177 tons.

January 2016 imports comprised a volume of 477,845 tons from Australia in a range of Rs 5,131 – Rs 6,412 ($76-95) per ton, 7,700 tons from Indonesia at in unit price of Rs 5,350 ($79) while the balance 24,093 tons came from Mozambique at a price range of Rs 5,177 – Rs 5,227 ($77) per ton.
In December 2015, however, imports comprised a volume of 777,616 tons from Australia in a range of Rs 5,217 – Rs 6,238 ($76-93) per ton and the balance 59,529 tons from Mozambique at a price band of Rs 5,551 – 6,146 ($83-91) per ton.
